Serco and Stromma awarded a new contract for Stockholm Djurgardsfarjerna ferries

news-details

Serco, the international provider of services to Governments, and our partners Strömma Turism & Sjöfart AB have been awarded a new contract to continue to operate the Djurgårdsfärjerna in Stockholm for a further four years. The contract is managed by the company Djurgårdens Färjetrafik AB, which is jointly owned by Serco and Strömma Turism & Sjöfart AB.

Every year, the Djurgårdsfärjorna ferries transport more than two million passengers in Stockholm. The ferries are important for both Stockholm's tourism industry and public transport and run between Slussen, Skeppsholmen and Djurgården.

Commenting on the award, John Whitehurst, Managing Director of Serco Transport, UK and Europe, said: “We are delighted to have renewed this contract. Serco is an international company with wide experience of delivering public services including passenger transport and Strömma Turism & Sjöfart AB has local knowledge with sightseeing ferry and bus transport services and puts the customer's needs at the heart of what they do. We hope that this fruitful partnership can lead to more transport agreements in the future.”

Patric Sjöberg, CEO of Strömma Turism & Sjöfart AB, added: “We are of course happy to have received this renewed confidence from the Stockholm Region to operate the Djurgårdsfärjerna. We will continue to provide the best possible service to both Stockholmers and tourists.

Patric Sjöberg explains that the success of the collaboration between Serco and Strömma Turism & Sjöfart lies in the fact that the companies come from two different industries with experiences that complement each other and strengthen the end result.

In 2013, Stromma and Serco won the procurement for the operation of the Djurgårdsfärjorna in Stockholm. The contract has since been operated through the jointly owned company Djurgårdens Färjetrafik AB. The new contract will commence on 1 March 2022.
